It seems that it has never been so necessary to econimize as now, and it’s not as much a matter of our wallets as it is a matter of character.

Remember that the amount of money you have has nothing to do with how much you earn. Some people who earn one million dollars a year, may not even have any money now, while others who earn much less, may be doing alright – as it is not so much how much you earn, but how much you spend.

The consumer-minded society we live in has taught us that ‘happiness is having things’ and has failed to teach the opposite. Guess why …??? ;-)

I’m talking about being economical… not being greedy!

  • Speaking seriously now… If you’re used to paying $3 for coffee at Starbucks on the way to work, switch to a misto that is just brewed coffee and costs $1 less and comes in a tall cup. If you prefer strong coffee order a ‘short latte’, which has less milk but the same amount of coffee than an expresso and is 50 cents cheaper.
  • If you spend a fortune driving to work and paying for parking, visit the www.eRiderShare.com and look for others to do car pooling with or www.hopstop.com or www.google.com/transit. If you live and near the airport, www.supershuttle.com. Remember that this country has 33 airports which all have small buses.
If you spend $ 1.50 per day for the newspaper… There are several websites that gather news, such as:
  • www.dailybeast.com. The section Cheat Sheet has a good list of the main news.
  • www.news.google.com – with up to-the-minute news from thousands of sources.
  • www.newser.com – It’s like watching dozens of channels of news at the same time. They distill the day’s news in pictures, headers and easy to understand paragraphs.
  • www.alltop.com – that’s a short name for all the major news. Also if you want to scan a dozen headers about one subject, it’s quite easy.
  • If you spend on average about $8 for lunch, bring your lunch from home! On Sunday cook up enough pasta for the whole week. Rinse it with cold water, since you will use this base for several different varieties of salads.
  • Throw a little olive oil and refrigerate. When you get ready to use it, season it to taste and mix it with various things on different days. Ex: Chickpeas, feta cheese, lemon, arugula, almonds, spinach, grated parmesan cheese, tuna, onions, olives, grated carrots, cucumbers, more olive oil, finally… whatever you like.
  • He who does not save… suffers ;-)
  • Now something mentioned before, from someone very, very famous, and for me he’s the pinnacle of wisdom:

  • “SIMPLICITY IS THE ULTIMATUM OF SOPHISTICATION.” (Leonardo Da Vinci) “
