As I said in the introduction of the blog: “the middle child in me makes me want to walk with a camera under my arm all the time!

I do not know how many thousands of photos I have, just here in my “PICASA”. But I gradually learned a few things here and there by much trial and error…

With digital cameras, I became fanatic for photos! :-)

Before this blog, Mr.Slipper Socks Man, would ask me from time to time: ‘but why do you have to take a picture of that …?’

‘Not now…’ ;-)

At the end of the year, it’s traditional to take professional photos and make Christmas cards from them. I think I can contribute a little, save you a little money, and reveal of my secrets …

  • Use a digital with the minimum of 3 to 4 megapixels, this ensures that the pictures are sufficiently clear.
  • Before you start shooting, ‘clean’ the scene by clearing away many details that usually exist. Leave ZERO details. If you do not have a wall with nothing on it, hang a white sheet in the background.
  • As indirect light helps a lot, place people a few steps away from the window or turn on a lamp so that it reflects on the ceiling or a wall nearby. Do not put light directly in front or behind people or objects, if it can be helped.
  • if you’re shooting outdoors, do not do it at noon, so as to avoid squinty eyes and heavy shadows. I love to take a pictures early in the morning or at dusk.
  • I have already mentioned in a recent post, as the tip of a professional friend: enjoy the moment! Not everyone needs to be like ‘stick figures’.
  • If you are taking photos under falling snow, put the camera in ‘SPORTS’ mode, because the picture comes out faster. On my own, I like using the zoom, especially at those moments, and I use it a lot, because I’m always shooting dogs that do not won’t stay still. :-)
  • If it’s Santa Claus, show the children a photo of the bearded old man. If you are in the line to do this, back away from it a little and show what the other children are doing …
But I think the best are the ones where the children are looking at Santa Claus with a ’suspicious’ look or are crying … :-)
  • if the Christmas tree in the background is lit up: turn off the flash, because new cameras are super sensitive to light, so you get the natural glow (in the daytime) and still use the ambient lights.
The photo below I took in the middle of this year, at dusk, when the sun hit the stumps in the water. It looked different… as if on fire!

The fact is, I’m not so into the subject of ‘photography’. After I take a shot, they are saved, and I don’t mess with them any more… Hunters are not always are good cooks … :-)

A famous photographer said, I forgot his name: “‘The color photos show the clothes, and black and white people’s souls…”

I think you can photograph thoughts and feelings.
