According to the government that’s the official number of storms per year in America. Ten percent of them are classified severe.
These storms will last an average of 30 min, and cover more or less a distance of 15 miles, producing tornadoes, lightning, hail, super strong winds and floods.
How can you protect yourself against this?
Having in mind a plan for you, your family, at home, work, school or during the outdoor activities.
Check the weather before going on long outdoor excursions and stay alert to the typical signs of them coming…
People who are outdoors, especially under or near large trees, in or on the water, or near hills are at greatest risk.
And what about our safety against lightning?
1 – Use common sense, move activities outdoors, if there is the possibility of impending storms.
2 – Protect yourself under any building with a strong structure or in a car (and close the windows). Stay away from isolated trees and if the car is convertible, look for something safer.
3 – Stay away from tall objects such as towers, fences, telephone poles and power lines.
4 – Try not to touch anything metal.
5 – Do not take a shower during a storm, do not use the phone (unless it is in an emergency) and do not use your appliances.
