God in his wisdom created flies, fleas, cockroaches and mosquitoes, but forgot to tell me:

Why….?!

Then he gave me this wonderful creature of four legs, allergic to fleas!

To recap the story then:

We’re supposedly made to love two legged creatures…

The 4 legged ones are very important and useful to the two legged ones…

But the six legged ones and up… JEEZ! :-(

It is a bit too much in my way of thinking.

Here in Texas, many of these little monsters seem to be the symbol of some places.

Mosquitoes for example, love my city, and I think that’s because we have lots of green and lots of water … And as the wildlife is also abundant, we have those damn fleas.

Houses in general (as in any part of the world), can easily be buildings erected for the habitation of man, rats, cockroaches and germs… ALL THIS, IF YOU DO NOT FIGHT THEM!

And the struggle is fierce, requiring lots of loyalty and dedication.

This is what I learned in this WAR:

To beat Texas fleas you have to pay a handful of U.S. dollars using “comfort” (kill any flea that touches the body of the animal), or “Sentinel” (kills the eggs and prevents against heartworm). This is what we use for both dogs. It’s no use to use one and not use the others.

In the backyard, what finally worked for us, was “Ortho’s Home Defense Indoor and Outdoor.”

You can easily find it at the Lowe’s, Home Depot or WalMart.

Also we changed the entire carpeted floor (perfect depositary of insect eggs), substituting it for wood. after having been defeated in battles.

But we won the war! :-)

If you want to try using a natural alternative, they say a cup of Pine Sol + 1 cup of vinegar, spraying twice a month works on grass. I repeat: faithfully twice a month.

Use salt mixed with vinegar in your pets’ beds and also on the floor.

It will smell like a salad for a few minutes, but it’s no big deal.

Use Head and Shoulders shampoo on the dogs and also spray the animal with a vinegar mixture (half water). Be careful for the animal’s face!

Cockroaches really put my “…All Creatures Great and Small…’”creed to the test.  I hate them. Urghhs.

The only thing you can do against them is keep the house clean, especially the kitchen. They will come to get any crumbs at night. And seal all cracks possible.

Ahh… It will also help to have one or more Jack Russell Terriers. They have to chase everything that moves. ;-)
