By giving advice, tips and warnings, I want to help, I’m not just trying to please. We also have no intention of scaring anyone, (although a good scare some times is worth much more than council).

I found the following information interesting and I am passing it on:

Tanya Simuni, MD, of Northwestern University Feiberg School of Medicine (Neurology Section) says even though Parkinson’s disease is common (1 in every 100 adults over 60 years), it is not diagnosed until the tremors, slowness, stiffness and problems begin to appear. But there may be other signs, which people are missing.

About 80% of Parkinson’s patients lose much of their sense of smell before they start having motor symptoms.

Other problems that precede the disease are: chronic constipation, anxiety developed for the first time in life and a behavior disorder in REM sleep state (in which people act violently dreaming).

It is too early to tell whether these ‘symptoms’ can definitively predict who will have Parkinson’s disease, but Dr. Simuni and scientists from 15 research centers across the country are trying to find out.
